MOther's day Classic Tournament Rules & Regulations


Game Format & Timing

  • Home team is determined by coin flip during pool play.
  • Higher seed chooses home/away for Championship games.
  • 13U/14U: 7 innings (no new inning after 1 hour 40 minutes)
  • 9U–12U: 6 innings (no new inning after 1 hour 40 minutes)
  • Championship games: No new inning after 2 hours
  • If time expires during pool play, the game ends in a tie
  • No tiebreaker innings in pool play
  • International tiebreaker rule applies if time allows
  • Mercy rule:
    • 12-run lead after 4 innings
    • 15-run lead after 3 innings
    • 20-run lead after 2 innings


Gameplay Rules

  • Batting order:
    • No limit on lineup size
    • Minimum of 9 players required
    • Free defensive substitutions allowed
    • Players may play defensively even if not in batting lineup
  • Bats must be:
    • USSSA stamped (1.15 BPF)
    • 13U allowed USA bats
    • BBCOR required for 14U
  • Metal cleats allowed on portable mounds only


Courtesy Runners

  • Allowed for pitcher or catcher at any time
  • Must be a player not currently in the game
  • If no bench players: last batted out
  • One courtesy runner per inning
  • Substitute player may run for pitcher or catcher (not both)


Game Conduct

  • Official score must be confirmed with umpire every ½ inning
  • Protests are not allowed on judgment calls
  • All protests must be handled immediately at time of occurrence
  • No malicious contact:
    • Runner must avoid contact or slide
    • Umpire decision is final
  • Force play slide rule is in effect
  • No defensive warm-ups between innings
  • Maximum 8 warm-up pitches between innings


Game Management

  • Be ready to play before scheduled game time
  • No infield before games
  • Remove trash and clean dugout after each game
  • Respect umpires, players, and fans
  • Only two coaches allowed outside dugout (excluding base coaches)
  • Must have catcher ready when pitcher is warming up


Field & Equipment

  • No digging holes in outfield grass
  • Teams must provide their own baseballs
  • No unlimited supply—teams must rotate in new balls as needed


Pitching Rules

  1. Pitchers throwing more than 4 innings in a day require 36 hours rest
  2. Max 7 innings per calendar day
  3. Max 9 innings per tournament (including championship)
  4. No re-entry as pitcher once removed

  • Teams are responsible for:
    • Tracking innings
    • Signing game cards after each game
  • If a pitching eligibility issue arises:
    • Report to tournament director
    • Do NOT approach opposing coach
    • Ineligible pitchers will be removed immediately (not retroactive)


Additional Rules

  • Balk rule enforced
  • Fake throws to 3rd base are not allowed
  • No delaying games—keep pace of play


Sportsmanship

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct may result in:
    • Removal from game
    • Forfeiture
    • Tournament ban


Age-Specific Rules

  • 9U: No dropped 3rd strike
  • All other standard baseball rules apply
